Objectives

Project Overview

AniHelp is a responsive web application for animal enthusiasts to streamline the reporting process of injured, sick, and deceased animals.

Users can seamlessly report the animals they find without needing to search for animal rescue information. GPS and cameras are used to expedite the reporting process. Status chips allow reporters to track the progress of their reports.

The Problem

There is no transparent reporting process for injured, sick and deceased animals.

People have to manually search for the nearest veterinarian when they encounter an animal that needs to be rescued. Each city has a different protocol, complicating the reporting process. Additionally, there is no clear way to check the status of their reports, which can create uncertainty.

Target Users

Animal enthusiasts and Organization(Veterinary)

The Solution

Integrated camera and location functionalities and making transparent reporting system by providing users with their reports status.

Unlike other services, we provide emergency call feature that enables users to find the nearest veterinarian and report tracking system.

Competitive Analysis

AniHelp app competitive analysis

We found out that our competitors have complicated approaches depending on animals. People should recognize the animal and look for the information that suits the situation.

All researches we conduced led us our application main features, which include:

AniHelp app report incident

Users can create a report by using their current location and camera. Our application does not require signing up before creating a report for better user experience. Once they have signed up for the system, they are able to view their previous reports.

AniHelp app view report nearby

This feature enables users to view report based on their current location. Users can take a look at nearby animals and know what kind of animals have been found, which makes users become more interested in wildlife animals.

AniHelp app track report status

Users can keep track of the status of their reports. This feature makes our app unique since users are able to know whether the animal they reported have been saved or not. This transparency can increase user engagement.

User Persona

AniHelp app user persona

Mika, our persona, loves nature. Because our idea was from an actual story that our project manger experienced, we had to do some more research to create our user persona. There are wildlife animals anywhere but indoor people might not be our target users. Oftentimes, people love interacting with animals have tendency to go walking in nature.

User Flow

Given a situation where users have to create a report, we decided not make users sign up for the application beforehand. We thought that could be a reason for users to create a report. We also made a path to emergency call when considering users would need immediate assistance.

Below is a part of our main user flow, highlighting one of our features, Tool Inventory Management. We tried to simplify the process of each action.

Usability Testing

Key Findings

Our objectives included:

  1. Observe how users report an animal they found.
  2. Observe how users use request an emergency.
  3. Observe how users explore reported animals nearby.

Branding

I was responsible for selecting our typeface. I chose Lato due to its high legibility, meaning it can be used both titles and body text. Also, it convey not only friendly but also professional look. Since our app is text-heavy, Lato was the best choice.

Blue conveys the feelings of calmness and trust. Imagining the situation where our users don't know what to do, our app has ability to make them clam down and create a report with ease.

Reflections

Throughout this project, I was unable to clearly back my design decisions. This was mainly because it was my first time making user interfaces from scratch. In the next project, I will make sure to explain my design process.

This was my first time collaborating with develops, from identifying a problem to final presentation (and launch). It was a great opportunity to work in a team. However, when it comes to design hand-off stage, we could not provide the precise information such as the fonts, some components, and flows. Next time, I will make sure that these important assets are available.
